Mainstage Concerts

Classics Series

Experience orchestral brilliance with Chattanooga Symphony and Opera's Classics series. These mainstage concerts journey through symphonic music, blending classical favorites with contemporary compositions. Internationally acclaimed conductors, guest artists, and living composers bring unique interpretations to our stage all season. Whether you're a classical music enthusiast or exploring new musical horizons, the Classics series inspires lasting appreciation for orchestral artistry.

Pops Series

The Chattanooga Symphony and Opera's Pops series brings classical and contemporary music together in vibrant, full-orchestra performances. Featuring popular artists like Sinatra and Gershwin, these shows pair symphony with Broadway stars and beloved film scores. Annual traditions like 'Home for the Holidays' add seasonal charm. More casual than our Classics series, Pops concerts offer an accessible, engaging orchestral experience perfect for both seasoned and new concert-goers.

Chattanooga Youth Symphony

Founded in 1949, the Chattanooga Youth Symphony (CYS) provides young musicians opportunities to perform under professional conductors, attend workshops with CSO musicians, compete for scholarships, and build relationships across the Chattanooga area. This immersive program serves over 100 students annually across four skill-based youth orchestras led by Maestro Ismael Sandoval. Students perform three concert cycles each season plus collaborative and ensemble concerts. With professional coaching and hands-on training, CYS prepares students for college and beyond. The program includes 21% homeschooled students, with seventeen on scholarship, providing accessible music education.

Family Series

The CSO's Family Series, in partnership with Playful Evolving Monsters puppetry and Hamilton County's Read20 literacy program, brings children's books to life through classical music. Pre-show activities include educational crafts for creating interactive props and an instrument petting zoo where children can handle orchestral instruments. Each 45-minute performance begins with a mini-concert by CSO musicians, followed by a storybook performance featuring narration and life-sized puppetry. Every family receives a free copy of the featured book. Targeting areas with low literacy and arts exposure, this free series has visited venues like the Bethlehem Center, RISE Chattanooga, and Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga, courtesy of the City of Chattanooga.

All- Accessible Series

Young People's Concerts

This Carnegie Hall partnership connects orchestras with students in grades 3-5 through hands-on curriculum. Students engage with melody in vibrant performances, serving over 6,200 children across Hamilton and Bradley Counties annually.

All-Accessible Concert

This 45-minute full orchestra performance allows audiences to move and express themselves freely. Based on Carnegie Hall's curriculum, participants explore melody through orchestral repertoire while singing and composing from their seats. Launched in 2023 to better serve disabled and neurodiverse communities, it includes comprehensive accommodations: quiet spaces, open seating, ASL interpretation, captioning, sensory maps, and on-site music therapists.

Sensory Friendly Performances

The CSO presents four free Sensory Friendly performances annually at Chattanooga Theatre Centre. These small-ensemble concerts feature musicians seated close to the audience, offering instrument demonstrations and music history between pieces. The performance space includes floor-to-ceiling windows, open seating, and designated quiet rooms. This flexible environment allows attendees to move, sit where comfortable, vocalize, and engage with music without traditional concert limitations, making it appropriate for people of all ages and sensory needs.

Healing Harmonies

The CSO brings live, therapeutic performances to diverse community members including elderly, disabled, caregivers, and low-income residents. Through visits to assisted living facilities, support groups, and community kitchens, these performances reduce isolation and enhance wellbeing, prioritizing areas with limited access to cultural resources.
