Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Auditions

Principal Oboe, A-Contract

Principal Oboe Audition Preliminary and possible Semi-Final Rounds will be held on Tuesday, August 27, with possible Semi-Final and Final Rounds on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. The auditions will be held at First Baptist Church in downtown Chattanooga, TN.

Individual warm-up room will be made available at least 15 minutes prior to each candidate’s audition time. Lots will be drawn to determine the order that candidates will audition. All preliminary rounds will be screened, but the audition committee reserves the right to remove the screen for the final round. The audition committee reserves the right to dismiss any candidate at any point during his/her audition. Music will not be made available prior to the audition, but music will be available at the audition.

Principal Oboe A-Contract Information

34 week season, 198 services (Includes one week paid vacation) for duties as Principal Oboe of the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra and Oboist of the Chattanooga Symphony Wind Quintet. The CSO currently performs 7 Masterworks concerts, 5 Pops concerts, 4 Chamber Orchestra concerts, in addition to other concerts throughout Chattanooga and the surrounding area.

The A-Contract Principal Oboe position compensation is as follows:

$128.78 per-service, minimum salary of $25,498.44, $3,000 as Health Insurance Stipend, Ensemble Retainer of $2,800 for total of $31,298.44, plus 5% AFM Pension. Employment to begin in September, 2019.

Second Bassoon, B-Contract

Auditions will be held Thursday, August 29, 2019 at First Baptist Church in downtown Chattanooga, TN.

Second Bassoon B-Contract Information The CSO currently performs 7 Masterworks concerts, 5 Pops concerts, 4 Chamber Orchestra concerts, in addition to other concerts throughout Chattanooga and the surrounding area. Employment to begin September of 2019.

$103.02 per-service, 90 service minimum guarantee.

5% AFM Pension and Travel reimbursement when applicable Individual warm-up room will be made available at least 15 minutes prior to each candidate’s audition time. Auditions will be held Friday, August 30, 2019 at First Baptist Church in downtown Chattanooga, TN.

CSO Chorus

The CSO Chorus will be holding auditions for the 2019-2020 season on Monday, August 5 and Tuesday, August 8 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga, TN  37402.  Auditions will be in the Chapel.

Please prepare 2 pieces of contrasting styles:  aria, art song, Broadway, etc.  One should preferably be in a foreign language, but this is not mandatory, nor do the pieces have to be memorized.  An accompanist will be provided. Please bring copies of the music for the accompanist and for Darrin Hassevoort, CSO Chorus Director.
