CSO’s Bob Bernhardt named Grand Rapids Symphony Principal Pops Conductor

The Grand Rapids Symphony announced on Sunday, January 25, the appointment of Bob Bernhardt as its Principal Pops Conductor beginning at the start of their 2015/16 season. Bernhardt is the former music director of the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera and now serves as its Music Director Emeritus and Principal Pops Conductor, roles which he will continue to have at the CSO. He and his wife Nora will continue to make their home in Signal Mountain.

“With more than 30 years of experience as a conductor of popular and classical music, Bernhardt will bring his unique perspective, dynamic musical abilities, and engaging personality to West Michigan. Bernhardt will be an integral part of the orchestra’s Fox Motors Pops concerts, Nestlé Gerber SymphonicBoom and D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops. Bernhardt first conducted the Grand Rapids Symphony in September 2013, leading the “Boston Pops Tribute Show.”

Bernhardt has worked with leading orchestras across the country. These performances have included frequent guest appearances at the Boston Pops where he made his debut in 1992 at the invitation of John Williams. Bernhardt is also the Principal Pops Conductor of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera and the Louisville Orchestra.”
