2017/18 Chorus Auditions

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Chorus will hold auditions for the 2017/18 season on Monday, August 7, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 401 Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Auditions will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Singers should prepare two pieces of contrasting vocal styles, such as arias, art songs, Broadway show tunes, and church anthems. Selections do not need to be memorized. Darrin Hassevoort, CSO Chorus Director, prefers that one of the pieces be in a foreign language; however, this is not mandatory. An accompanist will be provided, but singers are welcome to bring their own.

During the 2017/18 season, the CSO Chorus will perform Poulenc’s Gloria, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs, as well as perform on the CSO’s Home for the Holidays concert. Rehearsals begin August 21.

For an audition time, please contact Mary Lynn Wilson, CSO Chorus Administrator, at mynn55@comcast.net, or by phone: 423.304.1535.

Regional Vocalists for 2019 Opera

The CSO announces auditions for vocalists from our region for comprimario roles in an April 2019 grand opera production and for consideration for other main series and special concerts.

In person auditions will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Tivoli Theatre and interested singers may sign-up for an audition time at www.chattanoogasymphony.org/auditions. Singers should prepare two contrasting arias, preferably one from the operatic repertoire and one from Broadway, the American songbook, or art song repertoire; two highly contrasting opera arias would also be acceptable. Both pieces should be eight minutes or less combined, as audition slots will be scheduled in 10 minute increments. An accompanist will be provided at no cost, but singers are welcome to bring their own.

Interested singers who are unable to attend the auditions may send resume, headshot, and audio clips of, or links to, two contrasting pieces. Electronic submissions are due by Tuesday, October 17, 2017.
