Eric Reed is Principal Cellist of the CSO Orchestra and Cellist of the CSO String Quintet. He is a native of Atlanta and began performing with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra in 1976. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston with additional studies at the Kodaly Institute of America, University of Tennessee Chattanooga and New England Conservatory of Music. He has performed with the Texas Opera Theatre, the Texas Chamber Orchestra, the Houston Grand Opera, and the Atlanta Lyric Opera, Huntsville Symphony, Savannah Symphony as well as Principal Cellist of the Atlanta Ballet. He was one of twelve cellists worldwide selected for the Piatigorsky Seminar in 1985. He has also participated in master classes with Lynn Harrell, Bernard Greenhouse, Stephen Kates, Nathaniel Rose, Raya Garbusova, Leonard Rose, Zara Nelsova, Laurence Lesser, and David Wells. His principal teachers were Hans Jorgen Jensen, Ronald Feldman, Martha Gershefski, James Stroud, and David Tomatz.
Eric currently teaches at Cadek Conservatory of Music in Chattanooga, TN.
